# Staking

## What is Staking?

**Staking is the primary value accrual strategy for Templar**. Stakers stake their **TEM** on the [Community Staking](https://templar.finance/#/community_stake) section (Staking submenu) of the TemplarDAO website to earn stablecoin rewards. If you are a new holder the '(3,3)' and " (6,6)' staking submenus have no relevance to you and can be ignored

Templar has its own stablecoin - **TM (Templar Money)**, which it uses to pay out dividends to holders, and which at the time of writing increases in value at around 5% a year. The stablecoin rewards come from the yields etc from various investments made from our Treasury Vaults, and can vary based on the number of TEM staked in the protocol and the reward rate set by monetary policy.

When holders first start staking, there is a warm-up period of 5 days before they start receiving **TM** rewards. The multiplier for these rewards increases over time, so that after a month they are now being paid out at a 2x multiplier. **TM** rewards are paid out by the block second and can be claimed at any time. Note: only unstaking, as opposed to claiming, will affect your multiplier - you are free to claim at any time, but of course it will be in your own interest to wait to make your first claim after a minimum of one month of staking, so you don't miss out on that 2x multiplier.

The [TM page](https://templar.finance/#/tm) of the website shows some useful data such as the current TM APY rate and the exchange rate of TM to BUSD - note that TM is always worth more than BUSD, and its value is increasing by the day! Pressing the 'Mint' or 'Redeem' Links on this page will take you to the 'Swap' section of the website where you can quickly and cheaply (even cheaper than PancakeSwap) trade TM and certain other stablecoins such as BUSD, USDT, USDC and DAI.
